The South Windsor Kennel Club
In early 1971, a group of dog fanciers, incuding George and Mae White, Terry Donahue, Lillian Percon, Richard and Myra Soares, and Marian Szelugofirst, met in the town of South Windsor, CT to establish a new kennel club to serve the dog fanciers in surrounding towns east of the Connecticut River.
During the Spring of 1971, the SWKC first match show was held in South Windsor at the Shepard Tobacco Yard.
In July 1981, SWKC held its first All-Breed show at the Tolland Agricultural Center in Vernon, CT.
In November of 1981, in conjunction with the Springfield Kennel Club and Windham County Kennel Club, SWKC held its second annual All-Breed show and Obedience trial. Today this event has evolved into the GREAT THANKSGIVING CLASSIC CLUSTER of Dog Shows, the largest and one of the most prestigious dog events in the Northeast.
In December 1994, the South Windsor Kennel Club was elected a member club of the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB.
....... and as they say, the rest is HISTORY!
